Frameless Glass Doors

In order to create a frameless glass door 2 obstacles need to be overcome

The first obstacle is means of support. The choice here is between floor, wall or ceiling. The second obstacle is the opening mechanism. The choice here is sliding/rolling, hinged or sprung.

Frameless glass doors also need to be able to be self supporting, and typically this means the thickness of the glass must be at least 10mm. 10mm glass is heavy (see weight of toughened glass), and so the weight of the whole door needs to be supported.  The choice of support will normally be determined by the strongest available support, this is usually the floor and hence floor supported glass doors are the most common. However there are three common types of frameless glass door.  Each overcomes the problem of supporting the weight of the glass and opening the glass door differently.
